WMRC introduces e-Waste Recycling
e-Waste Recycling added to the range of material that can be recycled at Brockway Waste Transfer Station.
Tuesday, 30 January 2007
The significant public face of the WMRC is its operations at the Brockway Waste Transfer Station in Shenton Park. Here the WMRC undertakes a number of waste disposal and recycling operations aimed at achieving an environmentally responsible outcome.
The most visible activity is the operation of the transfer station. Here some 33,000 tonnes per annum of municipal solid waste (MSW) is received from various sources like council refuse trucks, contractors and individuals alike. After weighing the refuse is loaded and compacted into “silos” ready for haulage to landfill.
The silos are a sealed cylindrical vessel of 27 cubic metres capacity capable of holding some 15 tonnes of MSW each. These are subsequently loaded onto trucks and trailers forming a B-double combination for transport to the landfill site.

As the name suggests the Brockway Waste Transfer Station is a transfer facility, no waste disposal occurs on the site, it is simply where loads of MSW are aggregated prior to haulage to distant landfill sites. Depending on the amount received some eight B-double combinations per day are sent to landfill.
