DESCRIPTION:Join WMRC and Rebecca Rickard of Deadly Denim in this 3-hour morning workshop to customize your own denim jacket! \nUpcycle your old or op-shopped denim jacket\, customizing it with amazing First Nations prints. Learn to design\, cut and sew new deadly panels on your jacket\, choosing from a wide range of fabric designs from Remote Aboriginal art centres. DESCRIPTION:Join WMRC and Rebecca Rickard of Deadly Denim in this 3-hour afternoon workshop to customize your own denim jacket! \nUpcycle your old or op-shopped denim jacket\, customizing it with amazing First Nations prints. Learn to design\, cut and sew new deadly panels on your jacket\, choosing from a wide range of fabric designs from Remote Aboriginal art centres. Open to participants of all abilities including beginners. \nThis workshop provides almost everything you’ll need including sewing machines\, fabric\, and equipment. It does not provide denim jackets\, so remember to BYO jacket!\nThis is a great workshop for people passionate about sustainability and looking for new ways to upcycle unwanted or unneeded textile items. \nTickets are $5.00 for those that need to use a Deadly Denim sewing machine. Limited free tickets are available for up to 5 people who bring their own sewing machine. \nBuy tickets here: https://events.humanitix.com/deadly-denim-workshop-or-make-your-own-jacket-pm \nDeadly Denim is a creative business founded by Rebecca Rickard a Ballardong\, Whadjuk woman from the Nyungar nation living and working on country Perth WA. Her clothing pushes for sustainability in the fashion industry and showcases Indigenous art and designs. Some fabrics used are from Aboriginal Art Centres in WA and the Northern Territory\, and others are individual artists Deadly Denim has collaborated with to create digitally printing designs.This event is part of WMRC’s Textile Trail and (Re)Love Your Stuff campaign and is supported by the Government of Western Australia and the Waste Authority. DESCRIPTION:Join WMRC for an upcycling workshop using rescued wedding dresses! \nAttendees will: \n\nLearn key skills to upcycle rescued items.\nChange their perspective on unwanted textiles.\nBe inspired to make their next event low-waste with stylish upcycled decorations.\nTake home their very own low-waste\, reusable party and Christmas decorations including festive garlands\, tulle pom-poms and ornaments!\n\nAll materials\, including wedding dresses\, will be provided. Attendees also have the option to bring their own wedding dress to upcycle. \nThis is a great workshop for people passionate about sustainability and looking for new ways to upcycle unwanted or unneeded textile items.\nBeginners are welcome\, this workshop is suitable for those aged 12+ \nThe wedding dresses used in this workshop have been donated by Vinnies WA Op Shops as they are damaged and unsellable. SUMMARY:Visible Mending for Beginners: Basket Darning
DESCRIPTION:Join WMRC and Tobi Beckley for a beginners mending workshop hosted by Calico and Ivy! \nThis workshop is designed to inspire and empower participants to mend their existing wardrobe. Mending is an act of love and Tobi wants to pass on these age-old skills so we can make our texture and shape. It is a joyful launch pad for those wanting to try visible mending with pretty designs for the first time. \nBuy tickets here: https://events.humanitix.com/textile-trail-mending-workshop \nAttendees will: \n\nBe introduced to the basket darning technique.\nBe shown several demonstrations of this darning technique on different types of clothing\, including woven fabrics.\nPractice darning techniques on swatches that will be provided.\nPractice darning techniques on your own clothing with holes in it.\n\nAttendees will be provided their own repair kit and are asked to bring along a woollen or cotton garmen that has a few holes in it (such as a medium weight knitted jumper or a pair of jeans).
