Managing waste wisely

West Metro Recycling Centre

What do we do?

In its capacity as a transfer station, the West Metro Recycling Centre (WMRC) aggregates, compacts and loads large volumes of municipal solid waste into silos that can be effectively and efficiently transferred to distant sites for appropriate treatment or disposal.

To help you manage your waste wisely, the WMRC offers a recycling and disposal service for acceptable items, seven days a week, for residents, businesses and councils. Download our Waste Matters publication for more information on the services offered by the WMRC.

What do we accept?

The West Metro Recycling Centre accepts a wide range of recyclable and non-recyclable items that:

  • are not suitable for kerbside collection;
  • exceed weekly kerbside collection amounts; or
  • are considered hazardous or problematic.
Around 31,000 tonnes of waste and recyclables were received from councils, commercial customers and residents in 2017-18. Waste from the region and surrounds is consolidated at the facility and trucked to landfill.

Where are we?

The West Metro Recycling Centre is located on the corner of Brockway Road and Lemnos Street (enter off Brockway Road). The West Metro Recycling Centre is perfectly located to service the western suburbs of Perth.

Do we charge?

Please note that from 1 July 2020 residents will be asked for proof of residence in one of our five Member Councils – Town of Claremont, Town of Cottesloe, Town of Mosman Park, Shire of Peppermint Grove  and City of Subiaco,  or in our Participating Council – Town of Cambridge.  A $25 Entry Fee will apply in most other circumstances.  More information here: WMRC focusses its services
