The clips that hold your favourite brews can now be recycled at the West Metro Recycling Centre.
How it works – closing the loop on beer clip manufacture
Thanks to a partnership with Donut Waste, the West Metro Recycling Centre now collects beer clips for reuse. The collected clips go through a commercial dishwasher and are on-sold to breweries. The on-selling covers the cost of the collection process, making the scheme viable. The clips are then re-used for the packaging of new beer.
Once the can clips are no longer reusable, they are sent to Visy where they are converted into HDPE resin (high-density polyethylene), which is then returned to PakTech so they can create more clips.

Fun facts
- Beer can clips are so sturdy they can be reused 50+ times before needing to be recycled into new beer clips.
- Beer clips are made from 100% recycled HDPE (ie. the recycled plastic from milk cartons, some shampoo bottles, household cleaning supplies, etc)
Before you go
Got small plastic lids? The West Metro Recycling Centre has a separate recycling bin for those too.
